John Ianni: Musician For Hire
With Bruce Anthony Davis

John with Bruce Anthony Davis Review

In the late 1980's, John had the privilege of performing with Bruce Anthony Davis and two other outstanding musicians. John first saw Bruce as the Scarecrow in "The Wiz" at LaComedia Dinner Theatre. Bruce's performance was every bit as good as Michael Jackson's in the movie. Ironically only a few days after John saw this performance, he got a call from Bruce's agent that he needed a keyboard player for some gigs. John quickly responded “Absolutely!”

What John didn't know at that point was Bruce had an exceptional resumé in the entertainment industry far beyond Dayton, Ohio. He was a protégé of Bob Fosse with performance credits on Broadway and national television. Soon after John played a few gigs with Bruce, Bruce returned to Broadway where he was featured in "Chicago" and also headed the "Bruce Anthony Davis Jazz Tap Ensemble" at The American Theater in Paris.

The Bruce Anthony Davis Review performed a variety of songs from Broadway to pop. Bruce could impersonate Michael Jackson’s voice and moves amazingly well and his rendition of “It’s A Wonderful World” was incredibly close to Louie Armstrong.

In addition to Bruce's exceptional resume, his guitarist Kevin Johnson also had an impressive musical background. In addition to being trained at Berkley School of Music, Kevin was the guitarist with the national recording artists "Slave" who were featured on Soul Train.

Other Info On Bruce

I found this on Cabaret Hotline about Bruce...

"There's a really spectacular show coming up on Monday, March 1st (2001) UPSTAIRS AT PEACHES featuring Bruce Anthony Davis (currently appearing on Broadway in CHICAGO), but who also does the well known "Tribute to Sammy Davis, Jr." show. He sings, tap dances, plays drums, trumpet and god knows what else!

Along with his own talents come his guests Valerie Pettiford, star of FOSSE, Cheryl Alexander recently appearing in PARADE and Altrovoise Davis, Sammy's wife, who will tap with Bruce and talk about Sammy. The entire Sammy Davis, Jr. clan will be there as well. It's going to be quite an evening of entertainment."
